GoGo

In November 2017, BTS set forth on their “Love Yourself” campaign, partnering with UNICEF.

This campaign produced three albums named Her, Tear, and Answer. Their goal was to spread

awareness  about  teen  and child abuse that is prominent in our society. In September 2018,

BTS was invited to attend the United Nations meeting and present a speech to promote their

campaign. RM delivered their speech, which they wanted to use to spread the message that

“true love begins with first loving myself”.

In their first album for the Love Yourself campaign,  Love Yourself: Her, the fifth song on the

list, "Go Go" was added. The song "Go Go" focuses on how our young generation  love wasting

our money on such unnecessary items that are materialistic. Though the song may sound

quite happy and energetic, it paints our society in a negative light

Worked hard to get my pay

Gonna  spend it all on my  stomach

Pinching pennies to  spend it  all on wasting  it

[Verse 2: Jungkook, Suga]

(English  translation)

BTS  wrote this song as a parody to poke fun at how these young adults act and show the sad

truth they face. In the lyrics, “Pinching pennies to spend it all on wasting it” they show that

these people who are squandering their money, pretend that they play big, but they are

pinching pennies to impress others how rich they are. Even though these adults do not have

much money, they will keep spending it on things that will not help them in the future.

[Refrain: V, Jungkook, Jin]

Yolo  yolo  yolo  yo

Where my money yah

Squandering fun, squandering fun, squandering fun

(English  translation)

To promote their new album, they held a press conference to discuss their songs, in which,

member, Suga, talked about "Go Go".  RM  explained, “The current generation uses phrases like

YOLO and having fun  squandering  money, but I don’t think people think about why they use

such terms so much even while using them. It isn’t a BTS album if there isn’t a track criticizing

society”. Suga goes hard on the new generation, on how  oblivious  we are  about  caring for

their futures and using these terms when we do not utterly understand what we are saying to

others. Our behavior encourages other young people to act this way and set these standards

of only showing your personal worth and not how much you can spend.

Anpanman

On the second album of BTS’s Love Yourself campaign, Love Yourself: Tear, the song

"Anpanman" was released. As the ninth track, it was meant to show their fans that even if

they do not have superhuman powers, they can still find hope and happiness through their

music.
