Education Leaders and Teachers in the OECS
Education leaders in the OECS totaled 877 and consisted of Principals and Deputy Principals at pre-schools, primary, secondary and national colleges in six[1] Member States. Data was not available for Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda and Montserrat.
The total number of teachers in the OECS is 9,428; of which 79 percent are females and 21 percent males. As presented by the data, there is a notable gap between the number of male and female teachers which has been constant over the past years.
OECS Leaders and Teachers Engaged in Continuous Professional Development
For the period 2021-2022, a total of 1,797 leaders and teachers were engaged in Continuous Professional Development. Leaders accounted for 6%, while teachers represented 94%. Compared to the total number of teachers in the OECS (9,428), only 18% of the teachers participated in Continuous Professional Development; while leaders’ participation was 13%.
