IVY MI KINDERGARTEN Let’s READ in Ivy Schools on World Book and Copyright Day By Ivy MI Kindergarten Three Thousand Castles Campus (Chengdu) S hakespeare once said: “A life without books is like a life without sunlight; wisdom without books is like a wingless bird.” How long has it been since you read a book with your children last time? where children and parents could visit and do some reading, building a bridge of communication between children and books, parents, kindergartens and the broader society. This year marks the 23rd World Book and Copyright Day for children all over the world. In 1995, UNESCO announced to set April 23 every year as the “World Book and Copyright Day” to thank masters of culture, science and thoughts for their great contributions to the human civilization and encourage more people to do more reading and writing. On April 14, we carried out a special sharing session on reading in the Yanjiyou Bookstore in CapitaLand Tianfu. Many families came, and we invited Teacher Yu Lichun to have a lecture called “Reading and Companion” for Ivy Schools in Chengdu. We also organized children and parents to visit and do some reading in the Yanjiyou Bookstore. At that time, teachers led children to do reading games while parents sat down and listened to the lecture. The pleasant reading atmosphere bound parents, children, teachers and books together. Before this year’s World Book and Copyright Day, Ivy MI Kindergarten Three Thousand Castles Campus, Ivy MI Kindergarten First City Campus and Ivy MI Kindergarten Longteng Campus in Chengdu carried out a 21-day online parent-child reading and check-in campaign with Xfanread, to help children develop a positive habit of reading, and to add an academic atmosphere to Ivy Schools, families and the broader society. They encouraged teachers or children to share a good book every day and visit the library. In addition, teachers and children were encouraged to share stories and picture books with one another, or to exhibit the photos that parents and children read books on the topic walls or display boards, to create the reading atmosphere of the entire campus. By doing so, children could spend some time enjoying and experiencing the pleasure of reading every day. Besides, Ivy Schools, together with Xfanread and Yanjiyou Bookstore, also conducted sharing sessions Ivy Schools Spring/Summer Edition 2019 Gorky once said: “The good qualities in our soul are most successfully and forcefully awakened by the power of books.” Indeed, 21 days of parent-child reading helped many kids develop the habit of reading, so that they kept reading every day and earned the commemorative badges by their own efforts and persistence. Though our campaign has ended, the habit of reading, like a seed, has been sowed deep in children’s mind. Reading is everyone’s teacher. Ivy Schools not only help children develop the habit of reading and enjoy the pleasure of reading, but also hope that children can, under the guidance of the teacher of book, explore and find the answer of life.
