all the activities would easily connect with their daily
activities, despite language or perhaps behavioral issues.
We also consulted reference books for investigation and
analysis. We designed teaching activities to incentivise
children into participating. They would make no-noise
signs, remind each other to be quiet in the library,
and encourage people around them to prevent noise
together. After the activity, children have learned to
be mindful of one another, and those who used to show
some behavioral issues have improved significantly.
Practice of Eco-Education: Stimulate Children’s
Interest in Nature Exploration
The kindergarten aimed to cultivate the innovative spirit
and practical ability of teachers and students, foster
the R&D of eco-educational courses, and adapt greener
methods in actual education through the activity, so as
to develop children’s characters in a well-rounded way.
This curriculum study drew inspiration from daily
teaching activities. Our kindergarten teachers had
noticed that children are generally very interested in
“water”. Many children would play with water when
washing their hands. Based on this observation, a study
on “water” was determined, hoping to help children
understand water and its importance, as well as learn
to save water and be cautious in using water.
Continuous refinement and repeated rehearsals have
resulted in the successful attempt of eco-education
by the Eco-city Campus, as witnessed by the course
evaluation. Teachers and children of the Eco-city
Campus have also benefited from the eco-educational
practice. In the design of courses, teachers will pay
more attention to children’s characteristics and design
courses with children’s growth and overall development
in mind. Children will also learn more from interesting
and innovative courses.
During the study, teachers found that children like to
scream in games, so the teachers of the study group
started discussions and studies on noise and music.
All studies on teaching activities originated from the
observation of children. We wanted to make sure that
Ivy MI Kindergarten Tianjin Eco-city Campus pledges to
promote ecological education in all respects of child
learning and endeavor to cultivate future citizens
with public spirit, who are also environmentally
conscientious.
