This year, Ivy MI Kindergarten La Botanica Campus
made some innovations in “Week for Change” by
introducing the flea market. We wanted to empower
our students to raise funds through this activity. During
the “Week of Change”, we also recorded everyone’s
ideas and stories to share with one another. Before we
kicked off the event, kids and parents had an extensive
discussion, exchanging ideas about how to make a
difference in this year’s “Week for Change”. Through
that exchange, they collectively decided to do a flea
market. Each student brought their own materials to
sell, and decided on their own what to do with the
money they made. For example, one child earned
two yuan from the flea market, bought some nicotine
lozenge for his dad, and told him that smoking is bad
for his health. The students now understand that they
can freely express their own thoughts, and try to get
things done on their own. Even small things, can make
a big difference.
On October 20, 2018, Ivy Bilingual School Beilin Campus
(Xi’an) carried out our “Week for Change” – “Care and
Love for Milu Children’s Village” by also doing a flea
market. They were able to raise over 3,400 RMB, and
used the funds to purchase daily necessities such as
rice, flour, and cooking oil. Campus leaders, teachers
and representative parents came to Milu Children’s
Village, and donated all materials to the children there.
On October 20, 2018, Ivy MI Kindergarten First City
Campus (Xi’an) carried out the third “Week for Change”
charity run, at Xi’an City Sports Park. Ivy children
joined the campaign to raise charity funds to make life
better and easier for impoverished children living in
Songshugou Village, Lantian County, Shaanxi Province.
The Campus Director mentioned in her speech for
the campaign: “Every participant is here to put their
kindness into practice. Do not fail to commit an act
of kindness even if it is small in scale.” Witnessed by
parent notaries, this year’s “Week for Change” raised a
total of 18,289 yuan which will all be used to buy picture
books for impoverished children in the mountains.
There is a saying that best describes the healing power
of a smile: “When you smile, the whole world smiles
with you.” Indeed, every participant of “Week for
Change” was smiling all the time, and everyone wishes
to change the world with the power of their smile.
