CLASS 8B – “The Elgin Marbles”

This year Class 8b have decided to work on a project about the Parthenon marbles. The Parthenon marbles, also known as the Elgin marbles, are a collection of precious architectural pieces, symbols of our cultural heritage. Most of them are divided between the brand new Acropolis Museum and the British Museum, located in London UK. These sculptures were stolen by Lord Elgin during the years 1801-1804, when Greece was under Ottoman occupation. Many famous people and celebrities have spoken about this, so it is our national obligation to persuade the British government to return these marbles to Greece.

This year, our class,8D decided to do a project entitled “The Wonders of the World”. We worked on some of the most important wonders, such as the Lighthouse of Alexandria ,the Great Wall of China, and Taj Mahal. We stated its significance, the history of each one, when, where, why and how were they built. Also, we found an interesting story of each wonder and why someone should visit these sites. Generally, we have learnt that the wonders of the world refer to something remarkable, so this phrase means just the spectacular parts of the world.
