Playing: a necessary habit for all ages

Playing: online or with friends, board games or sports, playing is a huge part of every person’ s life, especially for our ages and below. Many people play to have fun and relax or play to win and increase their adrenaline. Either way and from the beginning of the human race, some people find playing useless. It could be because it doesn’ t train us for anything and it is just something adults don’ t have time for but are these opinions actually facts or is playing necessary no matter the age?
There are many kinds of games: board games, sports, tabletop games, hard and easy games and what parents hate the most: video games. The truth is( luckily for the teenagers) that every single kind of game helps through some way. Many studies have proven the importance of board and tabletop games as they stimulate the brain which from a young age helps, creating a stronger memory and makes mental decline harder. They also relax the player and improve their social skills. Another BBC article explains the wellbeing effects board games cause on players.

GAMES
When I play, my heart feels light and strong, When I play, I feel that I belong The sun is bright, the flowers fresh, And in the game, happiness is the best. I play happily with my friends, and the fun never ends. Win or lose, it doesn’ t matter, The fun and love, are what I gather. Playing games is like an art, It comes deep inside my heart.

Every kind of game, physical or digital helps the player from every perspective. Sports improve the physical condition of the players and build discipline and mindset through training. They also reduce stress, since the brain produces endorphins and serotonin, while keeping the players active and improve reflexes. But in my opinion, the most important of all the advantages of sport is the fact that it teaches the athletes to respect their opponent and understand defeat, if needed.
And now for one of the biggest problems almost every parent has with their child: video games. Video games provide pleasure to children since they fulfil fundamental psychological needs, such as competition, connection with role models or friends and autonomy.

They also make parents mad, because they watch their children being absorbed by a screen, yelling and getting mad because they lost. But there are actually many positive effects of video games on any age group. To begin with, they sharpen their problem-solving skills and improve hand-eye coordination. As every other game, they also improve social skills through multiplayer game modes which can, sadly be dangerous. In conclusion, parents should allow video games for their children, but not uncontrollably and with caution.
Playing games is a huge part of many people’ s lives, but we can’ t yet realise the importance of it. Countless scientific studies have been made, proving the points mentioned, so for the young readers, next time someone asks you to stop playing or to“ get off that console of yours” just show them this article and quote George Bernard Shaw:
“ We don’ t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing”
