Play in antiquit

Playing has existed through many phases from ancient Greece until the 21st century, but it has always been the one thing kids look forward to doing in their free time. Throughout the years the way children play has changed a lot. From the early years of 800 BCE when kids played with“ Knucklebone” until now that technology is a daily part of their games, the evolution has been tremendous.

It all started in ancient Greece when children enjoyed playing with knucklebones, hoop rolling or even dolls. Then, in the Middle Ages kids used to play with wooden swords and early versions of chess had also started to appear. Outside, they really liked playing hide and seek. We notice a big development in Renaissance because teenagers started playing with cards and dolls. Puzzles were also becoming popular among youngsters. From the 20th century the youth started playing with electronic devices such as phones and tablets.
Studying‘ play in antiquity’ helped us understand that games were an important part of people’ s lives, just like they are today. Children in ancient times played with simple toys, yet they still had fun and learned through their games. Even though their toys were different from ours, the need to play, imagine and connect with others stayed the same through the centuries. This shows that play is something truly timeless, bringing joy and creativity to every generation.
