The next comedy follows the antics of five childhood friends Lenny, Eric, Kurt, Marcus and Rob who reunite after their basketball coach Buzzer’ s – as they referred to him – death.
He was the one that had helped them win their junior high basketball championship thirty years ago, and they’ ve all drifted apart since then. In a nutshell, Lenny is an accomplished Hollywood talent agent married to fashion designer Roxanne and having three children, while Eric claims to co – own a lawn furniture company and has a wife and two children. Kurt is a stay – at – home father, Marcus is an unscrupulous womanizer and Rob is currently married to his admittedly much older fourth wife Gloria.
The five of them meet up in their hometown for the funeral and spread Buzzer’ s ashes, with Lenny renting a lake house for all of them and their families to stay over the weekend. The children end up having a lot of fun together, so Roxanne tells Lenny to cancel her fashion show in Milan scheduled for the next day and they don’ t leave the lake house early.
The first two days of their stay are filled with both humorous and more touching scenes, with the friends coming clean about some truths they were afraid to admit to themselves. The last day, Dickie, Lenny’ s childhood rival challenges the group to a rematch in order to prove the game had been unfair and they all team up with their families watching them. Will they win again? What was revealed during the stay at the lake house? I’ ll leave it to you to find out when you watch‘ Grown ups’ yourself.
Our last stop for today is actually a parody pocking fun at superhero movies. Of course, our protagonist Rick is your typical outcast, desperately in love with a popular girl dating a bully, Lance. One day, his class goes on a school trip to an animal research lab set up by Lance’ s uncle suffering from a fatal disease. Rick accidentally spills a liquid that attracts several animals to him all over himself, including a very special dragonfly that bites his neck and grants him superpowers. However, we also need our bad guy to complete the teen hero story, who ends up being none other than Lance’ s uncle who, after testing the new machine he created to restore his health, discovers it can do so but only for a day and at the cost of an unfortunate victim’ s energy life per use. Just like any other superhero movie, Rick starts off … not too promisingly, letting criminals get off the hook and not making great use of his newly discovered powers. He even encounters self – proclaimed villain Hourglass and fails to stop one of his vicious plans, also messing up a potential relationship with his crush after saving her and rejecting her for fear of putting her in danger. Everything seems to be going downhill for Rick … how do you think he’ ll compensate for that? Does the ending involve him and his crush getting together, having kids and growing old while he makes a name for himself as the legendary hero or is it something completely different that a typical superhero story wouldn’ t dare allow in the script? It’ s a parody, so expect the most hilarious of plots.
That concludes today’ s ride across the world of comedies. I tried to compile a diverse list that encompasses more traditional comedies as well as a few more recent ones, of course keeping it light – hearted.
