What do you like to do in your free time?
Are you a bookworm or a typical teenager constantly on your phone, scrolling through reels and playing video games? Books and technology are both perfectly valid forms of recreation, each preferred by different types of people. However, what would happen if we were to combine those two to birth another form of entertainment?
Then we would get movies, an exciting fusion of a compelling, carefully thought – out plot and the use of modern technology to capture it all on screen. Films have been around ever since the very beginning of the 20th century, continuously advancing and morphing into the movies of today, packed with thrilling special effects and available to watch not just in the cinema, but on numerous apps like Netflix or Hulu. Of course, not all movies are of the same quality and there are some that have captured the attention of critics over the years, both due to their riveting storylines and their excellent casts. Today we will be looking at a few comedies, as the theme of this year’ s magazine suggests, ranging from a rom – com to more action – packed plots that are sure to spark your interest, no matter how short your attention span might be from being occupied with TikTok all the time. So sit back, grab your popcorn and get ready for a ride filled with the most hilarious stories; and who knows, you may come across your future favourite!
We’ re starting off with a classic romantic comedy film featuring Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant in the roles of a taken famous Hollywood actress and a divorced British bookshop keeper. One day, star actress Anna Scott enters William’ s bookshop in Notting Hill to buy a book, followed by hordes of paparazzi as usual. However, fate has something else in store for them, as William bumps into her shortly after she leaves, spilling the juice he had bought a colleague all over her. To make up for it, he takes her to the flat he shares with Spike, your typical messy, comic relief roommate, to change. Anna, acting on impulse, suddenly kisses him right before taking off, signalling the start of a chaotic relationship between the two. They end up kissing in a park after his sister’ s birthday party the same day again.
