She chose a french dip sandwich served with a small salad. I wanted something with a little more gusto, and decided on the braised ribs, mashed potatoes and a pickled cabbage.

Our food came pretty quick. I'm that one friend that wants a bite of every one's food (I know, absolutely appalling!). So I tried my friend’s sandwich and it was perfectly balanced. The bread was nice and crispy on the outside, ample juicy roast beef, creamy havarti and an au ju that was on point.

A sandwich that delivers what was promised.

As the server places my dish in front of me I was delighted to see the hearty portions and dug my fork right into the mash potatoes for a bite. To my dismay the potatoes were cold, and awfully bland.

WTF! How's that even possible at any self-respecting restaurant?

Since I was hungry I was still going to give my braised ribs a chance at redemption. At least the braised ribs were seasoned well, although slightly sweeter than I had anticipated, and the meat fell nicely off the bone. It's really too bad the ribs were also lacking on the temperature side. It was only lukewarm so I couldn't even use it to warm up the potatoes. Then there was the side of pickled cabbage, which was actually really good - fresh and crispy with the right amount of tang.

There were parts of this entree that could have been good but unfortunately it was completely out of sync and just fell flat, maybe even lower than flat.

Since I love bread pudding I had to have it for dessert. Well at least they got the bread pudding temperature right. Too bad it was dense and flavorless. Not even the sweet syrup drizzled over it could save it from its miserable state.

As we ended our meal I looked around, and noticed everyone enjoying drinks and light appetizers. They must have known all along. This place isn't where you come for a great meal. It's more of a place to hang out, grab drinks and enjoy the lighter bites. I would definitely come back to grab drinks with a friend and maybe a sandwich or some small plates.

But I'll make sure to make plans for dinner somewhere else.
