Zero to 1 Hundred January Issue | Page 30

My passion for design and fashion started at the early age of eight. I was that young girl spending my days in front of the television with a pencil and a sketch pad. I loved to sketch expensive gowns I couldn’t ever afford but I would long to have. Luckily for me, I was blessed enough to have a grandmother and several aunts who all love to sew. I remember spending my summers sewing drapes, crocheting pot holders, hats, scarves and making simple alterations to clothing I had. Unlike my sisters, I enjoyed every part of it.

From then on, I knew my calling was to create so I studied Fashion at Western Illinois University. After graduating, I was fortunate enough to begin my career as a seamstress sewing prom dresses and formal gowns for people in my neighborhood. As a seamstress, I became trapped in the creation of what others want. Eventually, I lost the desire to do the one thing I couldn’t live without, SEWING. I found myself style watching instead of creating style that spoke to the designer that burned from within. Somehow, I had to get my SEWING SWAGGER BACK! So this past November, I created my first garment in 2 yrs. It felt so good to be in the sewing room measuring, cutting, and sewing garments that express my fashion swag.

My journey back to my LOVE for FASHION started in 2013 and I would love to share it with you. So join me on this journey as I share my love for Fashion, Beauty, Style & DIY.
