The series Batman is more than an epic tale of a hero; it is a meditation of life. Batman is what most of us, at one time or another, have wished we could be: a hero. He doesn't have super powers, he is just an everyday guy doing extra-ordinary thing. Batman didn’t always have it easy, yet he was a fighter and there are many life lessons we can learn from his character and adventures. 1. Actions Matter More Than Intentions “It’s not who you are underneath, it’s what you do that defines you.” Batman’s childhood friend Rachel Dawes (Batman Begins). Rachel says this in response to Bruce Wayne’s comment that his play boy image is, “not who I am underneath.” The life lesson in this phrase appears to be similar to the moral behind the popular saying, ‘the road to hell is paved with good intentions.’ Bruce Wayne may be more than just an extremely wealthy ‘play boy’ underneath, however if he doesn’t show it to the ones that matter most, then does it really matter what he is underneath? Let your light shine, the world needs to see who you really are and the only way the world or perhaps more relevantly those nearest and dearest to you can see this is by doing actions that demonstrate your values and morals. Values and morals are the stuff that makes us who we are, but we have to act them out and use them to drive our behaviour, otherwise we remain not much more than a Man Booker Prize winning novel that is never read or worse yet, never written.
