A short hike from the ACTS Lodge is the canopy walkway. The walkway consists of a series of platforms and bridges that connect 14 of the area’s largest rainforest trees. ACTS has one of the longest canopy walkway systems in the world, extending horizontally throughout the treetops 1/3 mile and reaching a maximum height of nearly 116 feet. This system of aerial platforms and pathways allows scientists to observe and study previously inaccessible parts of the rainforest. The Canopy Walkway gives a vast view of the rainforest along with an understanding.
We watched both the sunrise and sunset on the canopy. We woke up at 5:30 am to catch the sunrise which was partially blocked by clouds. It was such a surreal experience looking over the jungle treetops and that gave us a new perspective of the land we called our home for nine days.

The most enchanting experience of the entire trip was when Roldan took us out to a specific spot in the rainforest at night and told us to turn off our flash lights. We weren’t exactly sure what to expect but we trusted it would be something to hold onto. I know I will never forget the moment the ground lit up like a field of stars. This phenomenon of phosphorescent fungus on the leaves does not photograph and is only found in this specific part of the rainforest. It truly was an unforgettable experience.
