MEMBERSHIP YWCA is the world’s oldest and largest women-led membership movement. As Chief Executive Liz Forsyth explains in her introduction “Membership is an expression of support for the work we do, providing both a resource and a reason for our advocacy work.” Democracy and Governance YWCA Adelaide is governed by a voluntary Board of Directors; women who are all members of the organisation. Our membership actively participate in our democracy by voting for Board Directors and this year we attracted an exceptional 14 Board nominees. In order to strengthen our commitment to women’s leadership and the number of board-ready women in South Australia, this year we introduced an annual year-long non-voting Board Traineeship. The Board also established a Nominations Committee which consists of several Board members as well as representatives from our membership, responsible for processes and assessment of a range of membership opportunities. “I am a feminist and have a lot of respect of the work of the YWCA in helping women to achieve their potential as leaders.” Why Jennie is a Member
