Mothers Day is upon us and most of us will settle for the same old bouquet
of flowers bought from the guy on the side of the road as we rush over after
work. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Make it special this year - go the
extra mile and make sure you show that really amazing woman in your life
that you care. Here are five ideas to make this occasion stand out from the
other 364 days of the year. You can either go all out and do all five of them
(because hey, you know she deserves it) or you can simply mix and match
according to your schedule and budget.
1. Breakfast in bed
Remember all those times you faked
sickness so you could spend the day
in bed watching cartoons while your
mother fussed over you? Well this is
your chance to pay her back. Nothing
says “I love you Mama” more than a
delicious and light breakfast, served
in bed on a pretty laid out plate.
Marbleized eggs are a fancy way of
making scrambled eggs. The idea is
that by mixing the egg up in the pan
and not a bowl, you do not create a
uniform mixture and the white and
the yellow stay separate making
it more textured and pretty. Serve
this breakfast with your mother’s
favourite hot beverage and a glass of
fresh fruit cocktail on the side.
fillet it (it’s already cooked so you
just need to heat it for a minute)
Smoked Trout and Marbleised Eggs

For the Eggs
2 tablespoons of butter, 2 freerange eggs, ¼ cup of minced chives,
salt and pepper to taste
For the Trout:
Find out the closest shop that stocks
smoked trout from the Nanyuki Trout
Tree restaurant. Gently heat the trout
whole in a pan and then peel and
Melt the butter in the pan, crack over
both eggs and break up the yolks
using a heatproof rubber spatula or
