crowd estimated at 10,000 parted to make a pathway for it. The Rebbe instructed everyone to walk behind the Aron. The procession proceeded to Brooklyn Avenue. From there the Aron went by hearse to the cemetery. The Rebbe and the RaShaG followed by limousine.
The Aron was carried to the burial site. The Rebbe read from a Siddur the Tefilos that one recites when entering a cemetery. As they lowered the Aron into the ground the Rebbe proclaimed in a loud voice:“ This is on condition that should we go to Eretz Yisroel, we will not leave without you!”
After the internment, the Rebbe said aloud Tziduk Hadin from a Siddur, holding back his tears with great difficulty. This was followed by Kaddish. The Rebbe tore Kriyah on the silk Sirtuk that he was still wearing from Shabbos. Those assembled also tore Kriyah. After writing their Panim the crowd left the cemetery at about 3:30 pm, arriving back at 770 an hour later. Tmimim realized that when the Rebbe walked into his room he left the door open. When they looked inside they saw the Rebbe sitting in mourning.
