YOUTHopia! is educational material that gives information related to
social rights with the accent on social rights for young people.
What are social rights?
Social rights are those provisions expressed in legal and other forms which
are necessary for the fulfilment of people’s social needs and for the
promotion of social cohesion and solidarity. In terms of specifying the
content of social rights the Youth Social Rights Network follows the
approach of the European Social Charter in its original and revised
version
When we say social rights we actually say:
Right to housing
Right to health
Right to education
Right to employment
Right to legal and social protection
Movement of persons
Non-discrimination
“Social rights are one of the foundations on which Europe was built over
the course of the last century. And yet, despite the significant progress
made in this sphere on our continent, social rights are far from being fully
guaranteed in practice for all Europeans.”
(Mary Daly)
