The City Hall of Thessaloniki
Thessaloniki’s New City Hall is located at the heart of the city on the corner of
Vassileos Georgiou and Tritis Septemvriou Street. It was built in 2010 and designed
by the Athenian architects Tassos Mpiris, his late brother Dimitris, and their
associates.
The New City Hall consists of two main buildings that are closely linked and
designed to meet different needs. Regarding it’s architecture, it is modern and
dynamic, including semi-outdoor and open-air spaces surrounding the two main
buildings.
The Museum of Byzantine culture can be seen from one of the two buildings. This
building accommodates all municipal authorities and services while the other building
is mostly used for social events and activities. Even though the area is quite big, the
buildings are not considered out of place as their shape is distributed proportionally,
allowing the premices to look spacious and welcoming.
