Metal-Free Hydrogenation using Frustrated Lewis Pairs Rakhim Tinassilov Department of Chemistry, School of Science and Technology, Nazarbayev University, Astana, Kazakhstan Email: [email protected] Abstract In this communication, I would like to introduce recently created so-called Frustrated Lewis Pairs (FLP), of which main application is in hydrogenation reactions. FLP is synthesized from Lewis acid and Lewis base in a manner so that they can activate hydrogen by means of high charge distribution within the system. Applicability of such system towards different functionalities is still under investigation. According to recent findings, some of the systems can be applied in C-H bond activation; borylation of heteroarenes; alkyne and enantioselective imine hydrogenation. A few notes will also be given to theoretical and spectroscopic investigations of FLP systems.
