Healthy on Hormones
Around 100 men a year are diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer at Guy’ s and St Thomas’. Extra support for men living with the condition is invaluable, and has been made possible thanks to wonderful donations.
Healthy on Hormones is a new patient education seminar for men receiving hormone therapy, a treatment which works to suppress testosterone as it’ s this which prostate cancer thrives on.
As well as giving support around challenging physical side-effects the group’ s programme also addresses how to manage mental outlook, such as handling mood swings and loss of libido.
Kevin was diagnosed with prostate cancer in February 2013 and receives hormone therapy.
‘ We have to live healthy without that crucial hormone which defines us as men: testosterone,’ he explains.‘ At Healthy on Hormones, we’ re showered with a wealth of interesting information and useful tips for staying healthy while living with prostate cancer.’

An incredible £ 1.1m was raised by 21 brave folk who zipped over the River Thames last December.
London Fire Brigade helped stage the event by rigging 463 metres of zip wire from the roof of St Thomas’ Hospital to Victoria Tower Gardens by the Houses of Parliament. Special thanks to Deputy Assistant Commissioner, Andy Roe, who dreamt up the brilliant idea to show his thanks for the care his son Zaki receives at the hospital. Funds raised are going towards building a new Clinical Research Facility – and we still need over £ 1.5m to hit our target. You can donate at supportevelina. org. uk / CRF
