AMACH! LGBT Galway Ltd is a registered company since March 2010. We are a volunteer run organisation which represents and campaigns on behalf of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community in Galway City and County. AMACH! was formed following a number of open community meetings. The board of Amach! has established a good working relationship with a wide range of community organisations, local authorities and mainstream agencies. The Inter-agency Working Group has identified gaps in the current provision of supports and services for members of the LGBT community. To address these gaps a three-year plan called ‘Celebrating Diversity’ has been developed. Efforts are focused around five key themes: Health; Community Supports; Safety and Policing; Education and Learning and Transgender Inclusion. The findings of the Amach! LGBT community consultation report and other research informed the development of this plan. The priority for Amach! is to ensure the establishment of a sustainable, visible, viable, accessible and dedicated LGBT resource space. In 2010 we successfully lobbied the City Council resulting in the establishment of an LGBT resource centre being included in Galway City’s Development Plan for 20112017. Currently we are working to make an LGBT resource centre a reality. We are very encouraged with the ongoing support and commitments for this work. We have developed a new network and peer support group for LGBT headed families in Galway City and County. Our LGBT parents support group events and outings are very well attended. We are currently in the process of developing a support network for older LGBT people (50+). The group will identify what the key issues are, and what should be included in the ‘Age Friendly Communities’ Strategy for Galway City and County. The first seminar will take place on Saturday 21st September. Please do not hesitate to contact us on [email protected] or check out our web page www.amachlgbt.com for more information on the work we do, up-coming events, if you are interested in getting involved or volunteering. On behalf of the board of directors of Amach! I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their much appreciated on-going support. We are looking forward to this year’s Galway Community Pride Festival! Well done to all involved! We wish you all a very happy, healthy and safe Pride 2013. – Nula Ward
