We are a part of this new generation, we were born almost with a computer in my hand, we could talk by phone, then by mobile phone or by internet to someone far away from us.
In a year, there is no day I can spend without internet, mobile phone, see an advertising, check email, listening music, watch video, TV and News... I can’t escape, have a rest from media and communication.
My phone make me have this feeling of independence. I can find my way if I am lost, I can take photo of what inspired me, I can ring my family or friends, I can go to internet if I don't get a word or something else.
Anyway my Phone can almost cook for me, at least indicate me where is the closest take away food…
But I can see when I forgot my phone somewhere I totally feel the hole, the loneliness.
I totally feel that I am dependent from this object.
I text, tweet, or like in a second and in a second people from all over the world can answer back. Every think is fast, every thing move quickly. I took conscience of how media enrolled us in there vision of the reality.
According to Levinas the relation to the other is defined first by a deconcerting proximity. The proximity with others doesn't come from a meeting, it isn't the result of some conscienceless. It is resulting from human subject before any knowledge and any representation. It is designated by immediate contact.
So is our relation with the being is affected by New Media as the contact with other is now fictive via social network? Do we lot the sense of the other through digital object?
Levinas go further : "Someone may object that material things extend beyond the realm of our present perception. It belongs to their very essence to be more than what is intimated or revealed in a continuum of subjective aspects at the moment of perception. They are also there when we do not perceive them: they exist in themselves."
In the same way, Valclav Havel (he was a Czech playwright, essayist, poet, dissident and politician) said "tossed, handling, automated, man gradually loses the notion of his being."
Digital put a productive tensions between bodies and technologies in performance. According to Baudrillard, video and new media murder the real, some artist use it to bring back this sense of human being with immersive or conceptual installation. I want to research how far you could used them. How theses technics could affect my practice or either make it better.
Times changed and people changed with it.
This new century let appear a new feminist generation influence by the representation of the women nowadays through ads and magazines.
