TEAM Y KEEPING ACTIVE IN LOCKDOWN

FEATURE ARTICLE SPRING 2020
Creativity and commitment are two key factors helping to keep staff active .
We wanted to share with you how some of the team at the Y have been keeping active during the lockdown period . It has required some creativity in order to take a different approach to their health and fitness during this time , with each speaking about how they have changed up their normal routine and adapted . It brings a smile to our face to see them still committed to their wellbeing . We hope you enjoy reading about each of their personal journeys !

I normally hate doing any form of cardio but with gyms closed it has forced me to try new things . I have been completing HIIT sessions in my garage at home and taking daily walks around the Maribyrnong River ( both activities usually include the dog ). Changing up my normal routine has felt great and improved my overall fitness , but I am looking forward to getting back to the gym .

During this second shut-down I ’ ve been running and walking , riding my bike for transport around town , and doing weights at home with some ancient weights a friend gave us ages ago . To help keep motivated I signed up to Run Down Under , a virtual 14,080km run / walk around Australia . I ’ ve done 555km since 2nd August , and it ’ s fun researching the checkpoint towns along the way . During the first shut-down I set up the veggie garden I had promised myself for years , and now I ’ m enjoying picking fresh veggies from it .
