SEASON 2013 performance with a wonderful hattrick from Craig Begg, under 17’s Ferry Athletic managed to snatch a draw from Letham Sky Blues after a superb Ryan Robb goal in the final minutes of the game. In what has to be one of the best Scottish Cup games in the East region this season, under 14’s Letham Tangerines beat DUSC in the first round of the Scottish Cup. The final score was 6-5, after Rian Shillan scored a hat-trick of free kicks and Kyle Mitchell sealed the deal in extra time for the Perth side.Dtarks Park, Kirkcaldy played host to a youth international to remember. Nearly a thousand people turned out to see Scotland’s Under 16 squad defeat Italy 3-1. [EAST] OCTOBER 18 | YFS Magazine | Issue #1 This was a great month for the east region, as in the 14’s age group alone Monifieth, Arbroath and Dundee West all qualified for the 4th round. Fairmuir and Carnoustie also picked up great results in the 15’s and also entered the 4th round. The under 16’s also had a great month, as Fairmuir, Monifieth and DUSC all qualified for the next round. DUSC carried on their unbeaten run by defeating Glenrothes Strollers 1-0 away from home. Fairmuir also won away from home beating Kelt Marian Colts 5-4, and Monifieth won in extra time 1-0 against Armadale SC Colts. Dundee Villa under 17’s also qualified for the 4th round by beating Young Falkirk at home 3-2. Monifieth under 19’s advanced as well with an impressive 5-0 win over Cambusbarron Rovers. NOVEMBER The East Region played host to one of Scotland’s finest achievements on the youth football scene in many years. In the deciding game of the 2013 Victory Shield, Scotland hosted England at Starks Park, Kirkcaldy. A 1-0 victory, with Calvin Miller grabbing the goal, saw Scotland win their first title in 15 years – ending England’s historic winning run. The girls’ season came to an end with three champions crowned. Forfar Farmington Blues and Dunfermline Athletic Girls won their respective regional leagues in the 13’s age group. Forfar Farmington 15’s were also victorious, maintaining an incredible league 100% record in the calendar year. Dunfermline 13’s and Forfar Farmington 15’s celebrated double success, after victories in their respective League Cup. Words by Mikey Colville
