As we move forward into the second quarter of the year , our policy portfolio continues to grow .
We are proud of the work that all of you are doing in your communities and in the broader progressive movement . In addition , our affiliate , YEOAction , has been an active participant in the national policy debates around gun violence prevention and comprehensive immigration reform . We are very pleased with the outcomes of the Policy Council Retreat – where YEOs used a creative lens in stretching the boundaries of our typical policy “ buckets ” by acknowledging the interconnections inherent in policymaking . This is the kind of holistic and innovative thinking you bring to public service as young elected officials , and what keeps our work sharp as a Network .
We are also excited to invite you all to our National Convening this year . The Convening ’ s theme , “ Accelerating the Speed of Progress ,” speaks to the power each of you have as young elected officials to accelerate the movement and to carry the work of our foremothers and fathers forward into the next generation . While social change is often a slow and painstaking process , you have accomplished so much already that you give us hope that such change is truly possible – and our momentum is growing .
On that note , we hope you will stay connected with us throughout the year . Please let us know about the work you are doing in your cities and states , what you hope to accomplish , and what we can do to support you and elevate your voices . Our purpose as a Network is to create an enduring pipeline of courageous and visionary leaders to change the world – and you are helping us do just that .
