These are mostly independent or Chain store meaning that they locate their store in town to fit their demographic who shops in town. There is a verity of ways that people of all ages can travel into town to the store as their public transport such as buses and cars, meaning that it's easily accessible for people to travel in and out of.
Out of town
A lot of larger retailers are located in out of town location than in town, as their stores need more space for their products. For instance, home furniture stores tend to be out of town near restaurants or leisure centers as it encourages families to come and spend their free time while having fun. A great example would be, IKEA in Lakeside Retail Park. Also, the transport for out of town location is usually Car, Bus or Train.
Local
Local store is usually walking distance for people to access so independent, off-license or Post office will most likely be there. These stores located in your local area as they have a certain demographic that they want and need for their business to succeed.
