Demonstrating leadership in wetland management
Lower Burdekin wetlands are home to many native fish , birds , invertebrates and crustaceans . These important coastal ecosystems capture nutrients and sediment before they reach the ocean , and help protect people and property from the impact of storms and floods .
For more than two decades NQ Dry Tropics has worked with a range of partners to improve the condition of wetlands , including those at Bowling Green Bay , recognised internationally as critical wader bird habitat .
Sub-committee , made up of representatives from several organisations involved with wetland and water management . During meetings , group members updated each other on current activities , discussed ways to work together to improve wetland health , and visited sites where works were taking place .
The Lower Burdekin Wetland Sub-committee ' s activities were funded through the Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries Rural Economic Development Program .
This year Wetlands Team Leader Scott Fry chaired and coordinated the Lower Burdekin Wetland
