Weed control a focus of Upper Burdekin project
BUILDING ON LINKING LANDHOLDERS TO FRONTAGE COUNTRY PROJECT ACHIEVEMENTS ( 2022-24 )
Under the Building on Linking Landholders to Frontage Country project , NQ Dry Tropics worked with Upper Burdekin landholders , Traditional Owners , and regional partners to improve the condition of high-value ecosystems in the Upper Burdekin .
Project sites included the grazing properties Minnamoolka , Meadowbank , Kinrara , Lava Plains , Jervoise , Mount Fullstop , Niall , Maryvale , Amelia Downs , and Junction Creek . These locations are within the Einasleigh Uplands bioregion , a nationallylisted biodiversity hotspot containing vulnerable ecosystems threatened by high-risk grazing practices , inappropriate fire regimes , weeds , and pests .
The project undertook threat mitigation activities including weed and feral animal control , and installation of infrastructure including fencing , and pipelines connected to five water troughs , aimed at protecting and managing critical land areas .

The project also established robust monitoring systems , completing one round of legacy monitoring , baseline , and follow-up Land Condition Assessment Tool and Vegetation Condition Assessment Tool reports , and fauna surveys .
The project team tackled a major Chinee apple infestation at Maryvale Station .
