Ramsar Management Advisory Group
Fifty years ago , in the Iranian town of Ramsar , an international convention was signed to protect wetlands around the world that provided exceptional waterfowl habitat .
Bowling Green Bay , south of Townsville , is one of only five wetland sites in Queensland listed under the convention .
NQ Dry Tropics established a Ramsar Management Advisory Group ( RMAG ) to promote collaboration between different organisations playing a role in safeguarding the ecological character of the site . The group provides a forum to exchange knowledge , and coordinates activities that support existing management plans for the wetland .
