North Devon update
The North Devon Dreamcatchers recently took a boat trip on the MS Oldenburg from Ilfracombe to Lundy Island, just off the North Devon coast, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Bristol Channel (the next stop after Lundy is America!!). It took two hours to get to Lundy and the sea was choppy but we were lucky enough to see dolphins jumping out of the water and playing in the waves at the front of the boat, a very magical moment for everyone!
Lundy Island is three and a half miles long and half a mile wide, and although there is not much on the island, it was a great opportunity for everyone to relax and escape from the hustle and bustle of life on the mainland. After trekking from the boat to the top of the island we got some refreshments from the Marisco Tavern and refuelled on the grass in the sunshine. We then set off on a walk around (almost!) the whole of the island, covering around 4 and a half miles. The scenery was breath taking and there was plenty of wildlife along the way, including seals, highland cattle, pigs, lambs and birds.
Dreamcatchers is a partnership project working across Devon to support 16-25 year old care leavers and ensure their transition from care to independence is as smooth as possible. This may involve assisting them into employment, training, education, work experience, volunteer work, workshops and enabling them to access other enriching opportunities such as social events and experience days to suit their interests and aid their development and progression into independent living
