Do present-day membelll realise how close it was ? Thirty-two voted against sell ing tO 28 for selling . Pressure continued however . and on 7 April I 938 it was resolved tO place the mailer of the proposed sale of the Newpon propcny with the local agents with a request that any reasonable offer of purchase be submiued lO the club for consideration .
It was at this point that J . R . Dingle came to the rescue . On 2 June 1938 a letter was read from Mr Dingle regarding the formation of a Pittwater branch oftbe Royal PrinceAlfredYacht Club . J . W . Jira said that he hnd been in touch with Mr Dingle and if the club formed a branch m the Pitt water and adopted the Jubilee 18-ft class the sum of £ 500 would be forthcoming free ofnll liability to Ille club for expenditure on improvements lO the club • s Pinwater propeny . It was finally decided toconferwith Mr Dingle and his associates on this mauer , the date for the confcre ! ICC being fixed for 6 June 1938 .
This was the salvation of the propeny at Green Point It is conceivable that if this proposal had not been put forwrud the club could quite easily have sold the propcny . The establishment of the Pinwater club was due lO J . R . Dingle and J . W . Jira-plus , of course , thcCommiueeand the members who backed the scheme . The first race here wa .~ sailed in 16 · fl skiffs aJ ' ound Lion Island in 1906 and the Piuwatcr Regauo had been held since 1907 . but this was the first effon by the club to organise regular racing for local yachtsmen .
The Committee held a special meeting on 7 June 1938 . ll "' day uflcrtheconference . and resolved that

Anew rule was formulated stating that ownas and helmsmen of all sailing cmft competing in club events on the Piuwatcr mus1 be members . associate members or junior racing membcrsof theclub , and it was decided to lay two moorings to mark Ille extremities of the new moorings . TI1e freehold of the club ' s property at Newport wns vested in the names of the Vice · Commodore . the HonoraryTreasurerand the surviving present trustee . W . M . Marks .
On l September 1938 L . Smith presented plans to erect , for £. 52S . a 3S ft x 38 ft6 in shed and slipways .
