' The object of lhis history is to place before the members , in a concise fonn . facts bearing on the inauguration , history and progress of the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club .'
So said L . C . Watennan in 1915 . Laurie Waterman , n member of the club from 1899 , was the first club historian . He acted as Honorary Secretary and later as Secretary of the club . He held office in the club for 34 years and was the club ' s representative on the Sydney Yacht Racing Association for 28 years , holding the office of President of that organisation . In 1915 be completed a history of the club from its foundation to 1900 . He later updated lhis history to 1955 . In 1935 he was elected a life member of the club for his outstanding
services . Material for this book has been obtained from his histories , references to old club minute books , research
in the MilChell and Public Librari0 $ and from discussions with some of our senior members , officials of other yacht clubs and the club ' s Secretary Manager , John ( Jack ) Lincolo Gale , who has been untiring in his effons
to assist with research and knowledge .
The valuable picture of Britannia hanging in the club ' s Galatea Room was presented to the club by Mrs K . Waterman , the widow of LAurie Waterman , and serves as a memorial of the tremendous influence that gentleman was to the club . Without his previous histories this book may never have been written .
