Bob Marley Museum
In Jamaica’s 50th year of independence, Jamaicans are
on a mission to celebrate being Jamaicans. People set out
to explore and learn about Jamaica and its history before
and as an independent nation. One particular place that
personifies Jamaican musical history is The Bob Marley
Museum, located on 56 Hope Road, Kingston 6. There,
its visitors are taken on a musical/historical tour of the
life of the late international reggae icon/legend, Robert
“Bob” Nesta Marley.
Upon entering the premise you are greeted by Bob Marley’s music and Bob himself with his favourite guitar as a statue that is. This statue at the front has below it paintings of Emperor Haile
Selassie (left), Marcus Mosiah Garvey (right) and Bob’s three backup singers: Rita Marley,
Marcia Griffiths and Judy Mowatt (front). On the walls at the front there are pictures of Bob in
various scene of his life. There is a family photo, Bob playing his favourite sport (football), Bob
at his peace concert in Kingston joining the hands of the opposing party leader and many other
fantastic scenes in his life. Pictures can be taken with the statue and wall photos but no pictures
are allowed on the rest of the tour.
