The following interview has as purpose to know about the experience as trainer of the Teacher
Margarita Cuellar, coach of the representative women’s volleyball team of CETYS Campus Mexicali
High School. Teacher Cuellar was coach and assistant to the national selection. She studied degree in
nursing and likes all sports, but especially volleyball, basketball, athletics, discus throwing and long
jump.
1. Since when did you start practicing
volleyball? 5. How did you start training at CETYS?
When I was in middle school I started
practicing volleyball informally, only when I
had a ball. Really, I started training volleyball
in a formal way in high school, almost at 17
years old. I am training at CETYS for about 9
years ago and it all started as a CETYS
project to form volleyball teams in high
school. I was in charge of the university team
for 4 years. I continue with high school team.
2. What motivated you to be a coach? 6. What is more difficult, being a player or
coach?
My coach, I really liked the way he
trained, his treatment. Everything he taught
me was novelty, entertaining and
wonderful.
3. How long have you been a coach?
I am almost 40 years as a middle and
high school coach.
For me, neither of them is difficult,
because I like both. It has always motivated
me to play, I think I have been a player with
character and decision. As a coach, it has
motivated me to achieve a championship
outside or inside my state.
7. What other sport has you taught?
I haven’t been a coach of any other
sport, it has been always volleyball.

4. Have you participated with the national
selection?
I have had the opportunity to
participate in the national selection on
several occasions with youth teams that
have represented Mexico in different
countries.

With the selection of Baja California, I
have managed to complete in almost the
whole country, I have attended many
nationals, participating with one or two
teams, mostly female but also worked with
men’s teams.
I had the opportunity to travel to Puerto
Rico about 4 or 5 times, I took national teams
and travel to Cuba with selections of Baja
California.
