April Landscape To Do's reviews

Knowing what to do month to month can be a challenge. The following is a list of "To Dos" for the month of April.

* Plant citrus trees that are two to five years old. These will have more success than older trees. It will generally be three years after transplant before fruit production.

* Deciduous fruit trees should be thinned so there is one fruit every four to six inches. This will protect the tree from being damaged by the weight of the developing fruit. It will also allow the fruit to obtain its full size limit.

* Pecan trees will need nitrogen and zinc to produce normal size leaf growth and to enhance kernel development. They also need more water than other shade trees.

* Check your irrigation system and make sure you are watering enough to accommodate the warmer weather and longer days. Water Use it Wisely and City of Phoenix have created an excellent “Landscape Watering Guidelines,” which is inserted on the opposite page.

* Roses that are established need continued fertilizer.

* Bermuda lawns should be fertilized late April or early May. For more fertilizer facts click here to read our blog.
