The use of short stories as a way to motivate EFL young learners

Nowadays, learning English is a priority of the Mexican Government. However, the results have not been
satisfactory. This can be due to the teaching procedures does not appeal to students. Therefore, it is
proposed to use alternative materials to textbooks. In this case short stories. This is based on the belief that
short stories are “better than other narrative forms” (Kendall, 2007, p.5) in terms of developing students’
language skills and motivation towards English language learning. In order to discover to what extent this idea
may be true, this inquiry explored secondary students’ responses to a set of literary texts.

person. American Jetstream is a six-level adult course by Helbling, co-authored by Jeremy Harmer. Jetstream
connects to the whole person, and moves your students in a state of flow. They achieve better learning
through memory training and critical thinking, as well as developing emotional and cultural awareness.
Students develop key skills for a wide range of international exams.

Respecto a la educación, el aprendizaje de otras lenguas es una necesidad primordial para los estudiantes, de
tal manera, que el aprender una segunda lengua, no es lujo, sino una necesidad.
Lamentablemente, la gran mayoría de los estudiantes universitarios ven el aprendizaje de idiomas como
requisito para titularse, ésta postura debe formar parte del pasado y cambiar. Por lo tanto, los idiomas
constituyen herramientas y medios que ayudan a progresar en las metas de todo estudiante. La propuesta
del siguiente trabajo es incentivar a los futuros profesores de idiomas a usar sin temor las TIC’s dentro del
salón de clase
