Used items were particularly cherished. “We love vintage. If it’s not old and in disrepair, we don’t want it,” she
laughed.
The two included one quirk into their floral pieces –
feathers. “It’s become this thing where when I’m in the
field, I’ll pick up a turkey feather for him…and when he’s
out he’ll pick up a pheasant feather for me. So we incorporated these feathers into our bouquets and boutonnieres.”
Even those with lots in common have lots to learn from
each other. Becca is an archaeologist who works for an
environmental consulting firm in Buffalo; David is a sales
representative for Gillette Steel. “I tell him I’m channeling
his inner hippie,” Becca laughed. “He never used a Nalgene bottle before he met me – now that’s what we use all
the time! And he makes fun of me because I attract every
stray animal in the world.”
When David proposed, he used their mutual love of the
outdoors as the perfect setting. On St. Patrick’s Day, the
two were snowshoeing in the Bighorns. “I was walking
off to go to another trail, and he said ‘Hey, wait a sec.’ I
turned around and saw him with a ring – I was so surprised, I almost said, ‘Where did you find that?!’” Becca
laughed.
The ring was a big surprise, and one that he had been
working on for a while. “Turns out I almost ruined the
surprise many times,” Becca said. “David did a really
good job on the ring.” Becca’s ring includes obsidian, a
stone that she greatly admires, which was collected during
an outdoor trip; the diamond came from David’s greatgrandmother’s Depression-era ring. “It means a lot to me,”
Becca added.
Their wedding planning was ‘a whirlwind,’ Becca said.
They combined many of their passions and little quirks
unique to them into their day. “Since we both love the
mountains, and David proposed to me there, we were
married in the mountains too.” They wanted to find a
place that was an ‘inside place in the outside world’ – their
solution was the Paradise Guest Ranch Chapel outside of
Buffalo. The two also love vintage and old fashioned items
– making Buffalo’s Occidental Hotel a perfect choice for
much of their day. “It has a great vintage feel,” Becca said.
Becca and David didn’t choose any specific colors. “If we
found something we loved, we included it,” Becca said.

One special item they created themselves, with the help of
Becca’s dad and mom. “We went up to the Black Hills and
cut a giant tree stump. We made a cupcake holder out of it
(the cupcakes were made by David’s sister). The neat thing
is that it now has been passed around a bunch of times.
I’m waiting to see it show up at a wedding again!”
The presence of Becca’s dad in the preparation of and day
of the wedding itself has turned out to be even more special than they anticipated. “My dad was in an accident not
long ago and we almost lost him. He’s doing better now;
but having him walk me down the aisle and be part of our
day is very special,” Becca added.
These two are now living a life together, their interweaving friends and interests joining with their new quirks and
learning from each other. Who knows where the next surprise lies, and where the next adventure might take them!
