We also have some reflections on the school ’ s engagement with its international pupils , in particular during the time of COVID . This has been a testing time for both the school and the boys . But I think both can be proud of the way that we were able to continue to offer quality learning , while adapting to the needs of those living in very different time zones . Beyond this , William Leung , who left College last summer , considers the importance of a global perspective , if those leaving the school are to thrive in an increasingly interdependent world .
Finally , we have a piece on the author of the letter from the front in 1915 which was one of the catalysts for the construction of War Cloister . The story of Monty Rendall and War Cloister is one of the most remarkable episodes in the school ’ s history . It led to the creation of the largest private War Memorial in Europe .
I am very grateful to Jamie Angus for pulling this edition together . He was a scholar at Winchester and is now a BBC News Executive who was until recently Director of the World Service — of which I have the fondest memories from my years living behind the Iron Curtain .
THIS HAS BEEN A TESTING TIME FOR BOTH THE SCHOOL AND THE BOYS . BUT I THINK BOTH CAN BE PROUD OF THE WAY THAT WE WERE ABLE TO CONTINUE TO OFFER QUALITY LEARNING , WHILE ADAPTING TO THE NEEDS OF THOSE LIVING IN VERY DIFFERENT TIME ZONES .
