Celebrating Our Success

Fiddler on the Roof was a joint
production with St Swithun’s. It played
for three nights at the Theatre Royal to
a packed house. Of particular note was
the energetic performance of Arthur
Lyhne-Gold (C, 2015-) as Tevye.
The Junior Drama Festival once again
showcased a huge variety of plays. Over
the course of two days we moved from
Twelve Angry Men and The Inbetweeners,
through Mean Girls and Pinter to Ted
Hughes’ Tales from Ovid to name a few
of the delights on offer. Our judges were
very impressed by the overall standard.
The winners were:
- Dancy Pot (1st Prize): Beloe’s:
Twelve Angry Men.
- 2 nd place: Toye’s: Hollingsborough Children’s
School Nativity Play (Toye’s also won the
Taylor Pot for creativity and originality).
- 3rd place: Trant’s: Forrest Gump.
The Armistice Centenary was marked
with music by composers who served
in the Great War, including Vaughan
Williams, Holst and Butterworth, alongside
a performance of Liszt’s first Piano Concerto
played by Nixon Chan (F, 2014-19).
The Summer School Concert featured
one of Mozart’s Horn Concertos, performed
by Peter Costello (B, 2014-19) and the First
Symphony of Sibelius. Glee Club gave two
concerts this year, in the Cathedral for a
concert in celebration of St Cecilia, and in
New Hall for an evening of opera highlights
with soloists and orchestra.
Chapel Choir joined the other choirs of
the rarely-convened Amicabilis Concordia
(Winchester, Eton, New College, Oxford
and King’s College, Cambridge) for a service
at King’s to mark the retirement of their
Director of Music.
Drew Jug was awarded to Furley’s,
expertly lead by Lani Odeyemi (A, 2015-).
The theme was ‘The Dinner Party’ and Lani
co-ordinated the entire house (including
Mr Fox and Matron). They collaborated
on a warm heartfelt tribute to their
former Housemasters and the Grubbing
Hall experience.
