Giclee print This is a French word that means a spurt or spray of liquid. The name describes how the art print was created. Giclee is a basically a digital printout from original art work that is created from digital scan of the original work. After the image is made, sophisticated printers are used to make high resolution printouts with high quality inks. A giclee come in different sizes and on various medium such as photo paper and canvas. The main benefit of this art print is that it is of high level of accuracy and also rich in color. Another benefit is that it is easy for an artist to make reprints of their work therefore they can create bulk prints within a short period. Lithograph This type of print work on the principle that oil and water do not mix, a handmade lithograph is a printout that is made using an oily substance such as pencils and crayons on metal plates or porous stones. Oil-based inks are then applied to the moistened stones that adhere to the lines drawn. The plate is then placed onto a sheet of paper in order to produce the final work. Monoprint A monotype or monoprint is a printing design that an artist paint different designs onto a plate using low drying inks. Images are then printed before the ink dries up.
