Joe Harper, Lois and Tony Alt Honored
by Pendleton County Farm Bureau
Over 120 members and guests gathered
together at Harold Michael Building,
Circleville, on Oct. 5, 2013, for Pendleton
County Farm Bureau’s annual meeting and
dinner. The delicious meal, sponsored by
Grant County Bank, Pendleton Community
Bank, Summit Financial Group, West
Virginia Farm Credit, Ben Glover Nationwide
Insurance and Cynthia Hinkle Nationwide
Insurance, was catered by the Kisamore
family.
Greg Bowers, DVM, a Pendleton County
Farm Bureau board member, served as
emcee for the meeting.
Following a discussion on proposed
policies, Bill Aiken, WVFB Field Services
Representative, spoke to the group. Like
always, Bill brought laughter from the crowd
when sharing some of his jokes.
Steve Conrad, local board member and a
state director, provided an update on the legal
case involving the EPA and Hardy County
poultry producers Lois and Tony Alt. He also
discussed the future of agriculture and how
it relates to feeding an ever-increasing world
population. He cited three obstacles that could
stand in the way of farmers feeding the people
of the world - climate change, market viability
and government. The Alts were invited guests
at the annual meeting and were presented
with a plaque in appreciation of their pursuit
against the EPA’s overreach and defending
the rights of agriculturalists nationwide.
WVFB President Charles Wilfong updated
attendees on activities of Farm Bureau on the
national and state levels. He also stressed the
importance of involving younger generations
in agricultural and other civic organizations
to ensure their future existence. Following
Wilfong’s remarks, PCFB president Kenneth
Harper presented the annual Service Award
to Joe Harper, who has distinguished himself
in a number of areas in agriculture, and has
been a Farm Bureau member for 41 years.
After the presentation, several other members
were also recognized for their years of
membership.
