THE BIG READ championship titles . The rains that spoiled Raceday in 2005 meant that only one race was run . The race win went to Chris Vermeulen ( Honda ) but the loss of the second race of the day to the weather ensured that Troy Corser was to win his second World Championship ( this time on a Suzuki ) with one weekend to spare .
As we can see , history plays a major part in the attractions of WorldSBK at Imola , but of more recent importance Imola was the place that Alvaro Bautista ’ s express train championship charge in 2019 started to come off the rails , if just a little . He had won all the races in the season to that point , 11 in all . And by gigantic margins most of the time . His winning run came to an end at a circuit he had not raced at before . Jonathan Rea outmanoeuvred him both times , with the third race cancelled on grounds of safety due to heavy rains .
We are back in 2023 with 20-odd WorldSBK riders , some of whom have never raced at Imola , or who are about to ride the Italian roller coaster on different bikes from the last time they were here .

Le piogge che hanno caratterizzato il fine settimana del 2005 hanno fatto sì che si corresse una gara sola , con la vittoria che è andata a Chris Vermeulen ( Honda ) ma l ’ annullamento della seconda gara della giornata a causa del maltempo ha assicurato a Troy Corser il suo secondo Campionato del Mondo ( questa volta su Suzuki ) con un fine settimana di anticipo .
Come possiamo vedere , la storia gioca un ruolo importante nel fascino che Imola assume per il WorldSBK , e più recentemente il tracciato romagnolo è stato il luogo in cui il travolgente treno guidato da Alvaro Bautista che stava correndo verso il Mondiale 2019 , ha iniziato ad uscire dai binari . Fino a quel momento aveva vinto tutte le gare della stagione , 11 in totale , la maggior parte delle volte con vantaggi impressionanti . La sua galoppata vincente si è conclusa su un circuito su cui non aveva mai corso in precedenza .
