This is the biggest river in Wrocław: the Oder – in
Polish: Odra. It rises in the Czech Republic and flows
through western Poland, later forming 187 kilometres
of the border between Poland and Germany. Wrocław
is the largest city on the Oder. There are plenty of
walking trails and bicycle paths on the river. You can
see our beautiful monuments building over the Oder:
Ostrów Tumski, Wrocław University and wonderful
bridges: The Grunwald bridge, the Sand Bridge, the
Tumski Bridge, the Redzin Bridge, Millenium Bridge
and many others. Wrocław is called „City of the
Hundred Bridges” and „Venice of Poland”. Before
World War II, Wroclaw had over 300 bridges, but the
city suffered significant structural damage in the last
year of the War. Today, it still has 133 bridges, as well
as around 30 gangways.
