A HAPPY, HEALTHY AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR TO ALL OF OUR WONDERFUL READERS

Cont As’ d 2017 next blasted page … onto the scene in a flurry of spectacular fireworks all over the world, it was hard to believe that another year had dawned. So many things happened in 2016, not all of them good, that most people are anxiously looking forward to a clean slate, so to speak.
We lost an inordinate number of icons in the entertainment world, too numerous to list here, culminating with the shocking mother and daughter death of beloved Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds. Among others, the literary world lost Elie Wiesel, the Nobel Peace Prizewinning author who told the story of his Holocaust internment in his autobiographical novel " Night," Jim Harrison, the author best known for " Legends of the Fall ", Harper Lee, author of the classic novel " To Kill a Mockingbird," Jackie Collins, the best-selling novelist who thrilled millions of readers with her scandal-soaked tales of Hollywood, mobsters, and L. A. private investigators, and E. L. Doctorow, the bestselling author of " Ragtime " and " Billy Bathgate," both of which were made into movies.
We have seen enormous strides in the technology fields over the past several years. Who would have thought years ago, that you could carry an entire library of books around on a slim little phone that fit in the palm of your hand? Apps for. mobi( Kindle) files and ePub( most other digital platforms) files have made this possible.
Surprisingly, in a good way, paperback sales have held their ground, though. There is still something very special about turning the pages of a book while feeling the heft in your hand. This issue has a focus on starting a book( see the article by Fred Rayworth), the impact of digital books in the modern world, new studies and statistics which indicate paperbacks are not dying, and paper vs ebook plus other interesting articles.
On a personal level, there was a mighty“ hurrah” when the first paperback copies of Incest, Murder and a Miracle were received.
