T HE B IG I NDIE B OOKS OF F ALL 2018
There has been a big switch in the perception of indie presses. Not that many years ago in-
die publishers were looked at with a measure of disdain. They were small, medium and univer-
sity presses that couldn’t possibly have the clout of a big publisher. Fast forward. Many self-
published authors have also established their own imprint. However, as you will notice, these
indie press successes have all had a good measure of publicity and promotion.
Unfortunately, this is not the case with many indie presses because of financial constraints.
In those cases, a decision is made by the author about how much they can or will commit fi-
nancially to promote their book. Refer to Carolyn Howard-Johnson’s The Frugal Book Promoter
for low or no cost possibilities for promotion.
