book form than you see in a manuscript.
Weird, but basically the eye sees what it
thinks it should see. Read it carefully, cor-
rect all errors, then order another proof un-
til you are satisfied that you have caught
everything you can. Invest in a packet of the
small Post Its. To save money, many 99
Cent and discount stores carry them. Place
one on every page where you find errors,
right next to the problem. Make a small
note on it if that helps identify the error.
These sticky markers make it very easy to
spot them later and know why you marked
it.
Some people even begin from the back
of the book and read going toward the front
so they don’t get caught up in the story. On-
ly after a few of these proofing ses-
sions, approve it for publication.
