1. Rotini With Meat Sauce
Rotini with meat sauce is an extremely flexible dish that is easy for anyone to make. Based on the ingredients you choose, it can have a variety of different flavours and health benefits. In this recipe—passed down from my mother—the al dente rotini is tasty, the tomato and vegetable sauce is zesty, and the ground beef is savoury. Not to mention, it is a healthy, filling, and balanced meal with a large yield to feed the entire family.
Ingredients:
1 red pepper
1 white onion
1 carrot
1 pound of ground beef
796 mL of tomato sauce
156 mL of tomato paste
900g of rotini
8 tsp of basil
8 tsp of oregano
2 cups of olive oil
Salt
Pepper
Rotini:
Bring 5 litres of water to a boil.
Cook rotini for 8-10 minutes or until tender, stirring occasionally.
Drain rotini using a colander and rinse with cold water.
Mix 1 cup of olive oil into the pasta.
Meat sauce:
Carve and dice 1 red pepper and mince 1 white onion into small pieces.
Peel and grate 1 whole carrot.
Add 1 cup of olive oil and all the vegetables to a large pan. Saute vegetables on high for 5 minutes, or until lightly browned.
Set the heat to medium. Add 1 pound of ground beef to the pan. Cook for about 5 minutes, or until fully browned.
Set the heat to low. Add 8 tsp of basil and 8 tsp of oregano to the pan.
Add salt and pepper to taste.
