I will say, I think to a large degree I think I’m addiction, instability, confusion, and suicide
right about that. But what I didn’t understand is now so common in our everyday lives, it’s
that the gatekeepers do not feel that way, they critically important to bring Light to the world.
feel like you are stepping on their mantra. Their Your song, “Anchor”, set in a beautiful 6/8,
mantra is “sex, drugs, rock n roll”, and it’s about anthemic cadence, states, “You are my anchor,
rebellion. So, the favor that we have, is clearly
God-given. God just decided to open doors
there, and I don’t know why He did for us and
maybe not for another band, but that’s not really
for us to choose. I think there are really good
Christian bands, maybe better than Skillet, who
have not had these opportunities. I think it’s just
if that’s what God wants, then that’s what He
wants. The favor has been from the Lord, I do
think Skillet does a good job of writing lyrics
that are very inclusive of other people though.
I think we write lyrics that are artistic in a way
that, if you are a Christian you hear Skillet’s
lyrics as Christian, and if you’re not a Christian
you hear Skillets lyrics as spiritual or inspiring,
so it’s not a turn off. I kind of particularly like
that, because I see it more evangelistic, I want
to reach people outside of the church, and I
think that art is a great way to do that.
So I think that the favor was given by God; I
so steady me now”. In these turbulent times,
Anchor // Skillet
the evangelical church is sometimes not all
think that Skillet is very inclusive in the way we
write our lyrics; and finally, if there is anything I
can say I’m most proud of in my whole career,
is that we’ve never been ashamed of Christ.
And that is what I set out to do when we signed
our mainstream deal, I said to the label, “You
need to understand I’m never going to be
ashamed about Christ. I’m never not going to
talk about Jesus. I’m never going to say we’re
not a Christian band, because that’s not true
and I know where I came from.” And they
said, “You do what you do, and we believe in
you.” It’s been a really good partnership I think
because they’ve let us be ourselves, and we’ve
that evangelistic, nor steadying. What are your
thoughts on this?
[John] It’s funny, you are the first person that
has framed that question in the perfect way for
how I would prefer to answer the question. In
other words, when I’m answering this question
sometimes, I have an honest answer that
I would really like to say, but I know that not
everybody relates to it so I frame it the way
that people can relate to it. Let me give you an
example of the latter, a way that I frame it is
this: we’re all going through hard times and we
all feel alone, sometimes we feel like God’s not
never been embarrassed about it. with us and we don’t know where to turn, and
[WM] The new songs from your 10 th album and He’s for us and never against us. That is
Victorious, paint themes of hope for those
marginalized by crisis and despair. With
just to remind them that Jesus never leaves us
the answer that everyone loves, and especially
the women really love I think because I say
