There is a big trend for companies to release hiend pedal versions of classic studio gear . BOSS has been raising the bar with their latest pedal releases . Following the much-loved studiograde RE-202 Space Echo Pedal comes the professional D-3000D and SDE-3000EVH . The original SDE-3000 Is a much-revered studio rackmount delay unit used by the greatest guitarists of the ’ 80s and ’ 90s . Two matching SDE-3000s were standard fare in almost every Bob Bradshaw Custom Audio Electronics Switching guitar rack . They were a pre-requisite if you wanted to be a serious L . A . studio or
touring guy in the 80s and 90s . BOSS has just released two pedal versions , the SDE-3000D and the SDE-3000 EVH , inspired by Eddie Van Halen ’ s personal rackmount units and his most used presets . The EVH version has some extra outputs and features from Eddie ’ s famous wetdry-wet setup . This review will look at the SDE- 3000D , which combines two SDE-3000s in a single pedal format .
OUT OF THE BOX : The BOSS SDE-3000D comes securely packed with a quick start manual , rubber feet , and a hefty PSB-1U Power Supply . It requires 450 mA 9vDC . The pedal weighs in at just under 3 lbs . and is just under eight-inches wide and four-inches deep . The black brushed aluminum case stays true to the original look . BOSS faithfully re-created the front panel features of the original Roland SDE-3000 Rack Unit . On top is a 12-digit LED , just like the original , with five rocker switches below that correspond with the five sections of the LED above . You have Delay Time , Feedback , Delay Output level , Modulation Rate , and Depth . There are two sets of four buttons , one with two banks and eight quick presets , and another four buttons for editing parameters . On the front are three footswitches , DD1 , DD2 , and a Tap / Control . Each with a blue LED indicator .
On back are two Ins , two Outs , two additional Control / Expression jacks , and a Power Supply Jack . The mini TRS MIDI I / O Jacks and USB C port are on the left side . The D / A Conversion is 32-bit with a 32-bit floating point processor . Going back out , the D / A conversion is a 24-bit proprietary converter .
IN USE : The Original SDE-3000 was a highly coveted and loved delay unit . It has a beautiful character to it that guitarists love . The Roland rackmounts were designed by the legendary Yoshi Ikegami and sold for about $ 2,000.00 each , and you needed two of them . Something was so majestic about how the non-linear Analog Modulation and Phase work together , making the Delays rich and musical . BOSS has done a fantastic job re-creating two units into a single
